Assisted-living facility for people with acquired brain damage

With regards to social reinsertion and independence, home and living are the key elements for personal paths to recovery. In order to guarantee autonomy, Progettazione provides facilities and support, assistance and a network of services to facilitate a brain damaged person’s independent life. The need for a “home” and an “independent life” is related to three fundamental aspects of social reinsertion: individual independence as the final step of the path to autonomy, treatment performed outside the rehab facilities and support in overcoming a temporary “crisis”.

The intervention

The path to living independence takes place in seven studio apartments, three in Bergamo and four in Pedrengo (BG). Each studio, for one or two people, is furnished with a kitchen, a bedroom, an equipped bathroom, a terrace and a garden. There are also large common areas, both indoor and outdoor. The studios’ location guarantees accessibility and proximity to public transport. The distinctive element of each of these interventions is the growth in participation in the local “network” to the personal paths. Local involvement is based upon well-established collaborations with:

  • hird sector (voluntary associations, foundations and social cooperatives);
  • basic Municipal services;
  • districts and planning committees (established by regulation 328)
  • specialised services (Psychosocial centres and Clinics);
  • NHS network, if involved.
