RehabilitaCtion
After brain injuries of various kinds (brain traumas, ischemia/strokes/haemorrhages, brain anoxia and hypoxia), cognitive, sense, motor, emotional and behavioural impairments can occur, which result in disability. Our Cooperative takes on responsibility for the rehabilitation of brain damaged people with a special focus on people with severe and acquired brain damage, people with a brain injury after a coma for no less than 24 hours. When a person has to face acquired disability, they begin a necessary redefinition of themselves. Progettazione aims at giving back a “new life project”, focusing not only on cognitive rehab but also, and especially, on social and professional rehab. Following a brain injury, people can present different degrees of disability, but for all of them it is true that a quick, global and coordinated social rehab intervention can bring about an improvement in their medical case, thereby limiting the disability’s effects.
Our courses
Within our rehab courses, people can benefit from individualised interventions, coherent with their social reinsertion and with their “new life project” which is necessary after a trauma resulting in disability. In addition, during the entire rehab period it is possible to benefit from psychological support and a specialised service for “family relief”. A Self-Help Support group coordinated by the Cooperative counsellor is available for relatives. Progettazione intervenes when a patient is discharged from hospital and, if possible, also during the hospital rehab period with the aim of avoiding isolation and the decline of the cognitive functions. Following this, interventions aimed at enhancing cognitive functions, at recovering everyday activities and at reinsertion into society, school or work take place. Activities are mainly carried out at our centres, but also in the area in which the patient lives, such as the workplace and schools (social and professional courses, protected labs, traineeships, etc.). Rehab activities are flexible, modular and customised taking the rehab course and the patient’s and their family’s logistic needs into consideration.
